Massa homicide trial: December date set for Bongiorni death case
A preliminary hearing in Massa has set a trial date of December 7 for two adults, Ionut Alexandru Miron and Eduard Alin Carutasu, accused of the voluntary homicide, injury, and rioting that led to the death of 47-year-old Giacomo Bongiorni. The defendants have requested an abbreviated trial procedure, which could result in a one-third reduction of any sentence if convicted.
The incident occurred in Piazza Palma on the night between April 11 and 12, during which Bongiorni was reportedly beaten in front of his 11-year-old son following a verbal altercation.
New developments emerged during the hearing as Miron has joined the proceedings as a civil party against Gabriele Tognocchi, the victim's brother-in-law, alleging injuries sustained during the brawl. Tognocchi, who is also facing charges related to the riot, has sought civil party status for himself due to a tibial fracture. The victim's family and partner have also been admitted as civil parties.
Proceedings regarding three minors involved in the incident are being handled separately by the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office in Genoa.
