Massachusetts Attorney General pushes for clergy abuse reforms and disability rights
Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is advocating for legislative reforms following an investigation into clergy sex abuse across three state dioceses. Campbell is calling on lawmakers to pass a bill that would eliminate the civil statute of limitations for child sex abuse victims and remove the $20,000 charitable immunity cap. The proposed legislation would also be fully retroactive, allowing survivors to seek justice regardless of when the abuse occurred.
Separately, Campbell addressed the Association of Developmental Disabilities Providers, where she received the 2026 Civil Rights Champion award. During the convening, discussions focused on the challenges facing human services providers, including rising healthcare costs, workforce recruitment and retention issues, and potential federal Medicaid cuts. Campbell emphasized the necessity of protecting the rights and dignity of the disability community amidst federal policy uncertainty.
