Massachusetts Democratic primaries see shifting poll leads and tax disputes

Democratic primary elections in Massachusetts are approaching, with significant developments in both federal and state-level races. In the U.S. Senate race, a new University of New Hampshire poll indicates incumbent Senator Ed Markey has extended his lead over Congressman Seth Moulton. Markey is now favored by 63% of polled Democrats, a substantial increase from 41% in June, while Moulton’s support has decreased to 28%.

At the state senate level, candidates for the First Suffolk District participated in a virtual forum. The discussion highlighted tensions between incumbent Nick Collins and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, particularly regarding commercial property tax assessments. The Pioneer New England Legal Foundation is currently representing property owners in a lawsuit against the Wu administration, alleging “retaliatory assessment increases” on approximately 150 properties. The city has denied these claims, stating its valuations comply with the law and are certified by the state.
