Massachusetts designates August 15 as India Day

Governor Maura Healey issued a proclamation designating August 15, 2026 as India Day in Massachusetts, marking the 79th anniversary of India’s independence and recognizing the contributions of the Indian‑American community to the state. The declaration highlights achievements in medicine, technology, education, business and public service, and acknowledges the role of community organisations in fostering cultural exchange.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu also declared August 15 as India Day for the city, coinciding with the opening of a new Indian Consulate in Boston. The consulate’s launch is expected to deepen diplomatic and consular ties between the United States and India, reflecting growing strategic, economic and educational partnerships in New England.
