Massachusetts expands EV utility programs and charging infrastructure

Massachusetts utilities Eversource and National Grid have launched a residential vehicle-to-grid (V2G) pilot program. The initiative allows homeowners with bidirectional-capable electric vehicles to enroll in the ConnectedSolutions demand-response platform. During periods of peak demand, participating drivers can send stored battery power back to the electric grid to enhance stability and reduce system strain.

Participants will receive financial incentives based on their vehicle's average power contribution during high-demand summer events. The program is supported by technology partners including EnergyHub, Sunrun’s grid services division, and The Mobility House.

In a separate infrastructure development, the city of Worcester is expanding its electric vehicle charging network. The city plans to install 22 new curbside Level 2 charging ports between September and December, increasing its total city-owned ports by 73%. This expansion aims to support residents without private garages and aligns with the city's Green Worcester Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
