Massachusetts hunting seasons for geese and bears begin

Hunting seasons for various species have commenced in Massachusetts. The early Canada goose season is currently underway and is scheduled to run through September 25, featuring a daily limit of 15 birds.

Black bear season has also begun, transitioning to a single continuous season running through December 12. Regulations regarding permitted implements vary by date: rifles, revolvers, muzzleloaders, or bows are allowed from September 7 to October 3; rifles, muzzleloaders, or bows are permitted from October 5 to November 28; and shotguns, muzzleloaders, or bows are allowed from November 30 onward.

Other upcoming seasonal dates include the Massachusetts archery season opening on October 5, squirrel hunting on October 8, and the regular waterfowl season opening in the central zone on October 10. Migratory bird seasons are established by individual states within a framework set by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
