Massachusetts man claims Ozempic caused permanent blindness
Ed Gillen, a 58-year-old former Massachusetts state highway worker, claims he suffered total blindness as a direct result of taking the GLP-1 medication Ozempic to manage his A1C levels.
Gillen reported that his vision loss began in May of last year with a minor irritation described as a “speck” in his eye. Within two weeks, his sight deteriorated so rapidly that he lost all vision while being driven to the emergency room. Following extensive testing, a neuro-ophthalmologist allegedly informed Gillen that his sudden blindness was definitively linked to the medication.
Gillen, who can no longer work due to his permanent disability, is pursuing legal action against the drug's manufacturer. While Novo Nordisk disputes these claims, Gillen is using his experience to urge others to remain vigilant regarding potential side effects and to monitor their own health closely.
