Massachusetts primary results show mixed outcomes for housing-endorsed candidates

In the Massachusetts primary elections, candidates endorsed by the housing advocacy group Abundant Housing MA saw varied results. Erika Uyterhoeven, a Somerville state Representative, won the Democratic nomination for the 2nd Middlesex district state Senate seat and is expected to win the general election in November.

Other endorsed candidates who won their primaries include incumbent Cambridge state Representatives Mike Connolly and Dave Rogers, as well as Somerville City Councilors Will Mbah and Ben Ewen-Campen. However, Burhan Azeem, a co-founder of Abundant Housing MA and Cambridge Vice Mayor, finished third in the race for the 2nd Middlesex district Senate seat.

In a closely contested race, state Senator Will Brownsberger led Daniel Lander by only 61 votes, a margin that may allow for a recount. In other suburban contests, incumbent state Representative John Lawn defeated challenger Alison Leary, and incumbent state Senator Bill Driscoll Jr. defeated Mike Zullas.
