Massimo Moratti discusses Totti transfer attempt and Inter-Roma rivalry
Former Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has shared historical insights regarding past transfer negotiations and club dynamics. Moratti revealed that he once attempted to sign Francesco Totti from AS Roma, contacting then-Roma executive Franco Sensi to discuss a potential move. Despite Moratti expressing a willingness to meet any price, Sensi rejected the negotiation, a decision Moratti noted reflected Totti’s loyalty to Roma. Following this, Inter acquired Gabriel Batistuta from Roma, a move Moratti stated he would repeat despite the player scoring only once for the club.
Addressing recent developments, Moratti commented on the upcoming match between Inter and Roma, predicting Inter would be more competitive over the course of the full championship while acknowledging Roma’s strength. He also addressed his past relationship with coach Gasperini, stating that while they have since reconciled through a handshake, the previous period of friction was a “unfortunate moment” during a losing streak. Additionally, Moratti commented on the departure of Piero Ausilio, noting that the official expected a longer contract extension than the single year provided.
