Massing, Germany: Magnitude 2.6 earthquake recorded in Bavaria
An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 occurred near Massing in the Rottal-Inn district of Bavaria. According to the Bavarian Earthquake Service, which is part of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, this is one of the highest magnitudes recorded in the state in recent years.
Despite the magnitude, the tremor was barely perceptible. Experts, including Tobias Megies of the Bavarian Earthquake Service, noted that the earthquake's hypocenter was relatively deep, at approximately 20 kilometers below the surface, which significantly dampened the impact on the surface. Consequently, significant effects such as shaking walls or rattling glassware were unlikely.
