Massive 340-ton generator transport pauses in Oxford, Maine

A massive 340-ton heat recovery steam generator, measuring 220 feet in length, has paused its transport from Jay to South Portland in Oxford, Maine. Due to the size of the load, the Maine Department of Transportation stipulated that the 20-foot-wide machinery and its escort vehicles can only travel on public roads between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The shipment was parked at the Call of the Wild RV Center on Main Street after another local business owner refused to allow the load on their property. The unexpected arrival drew significant local interest, with residents gathering at the RV center and the Oxford Plains Speedway to watch the transport move along Route 117 and subsequent state routes.
