Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack arrested in Liverpool protest
Robert Del Naja, the frontman of the trip-hop band Massive Attack, was arrested in Liverpool on September 26 during a protest near the Labour Party conference. Del Naja, also known as ‘3D’, was participating in a silent protest as part of the ‘Lift the Ban’ campaign organized by Defend Our Juries.
Del Naja was holding a sign expressing opposition to Israel’s military actions in the Gaza Strip and declaring support for Palestine Action. Since 2025, Palestine Action has been classified as a terrorist organization in the United Kingdom under the Terrorism Act 2000, making public support for the group a criminal offense. Del Naja contested the arrest, stating he did not recognize the act as a crime and disagreed with the group's proscription.
The arrest occurred amidst broader demonstrations against the ban on Palestine Action, which resulted in more than 50 additional arrests on the following Sunday. The group, which targets companies linked to the defense sector, remains a subject of intense legal and political debate in the UK.
