Massive geological structures discovered deep beneath Earth's surface
Scientists have identified two massive geological structures located approximately 1,200 miles beneath the Earth's surface, situated between the mantle and the molten metal core. These structures, which reach heights of about 1,000 kilometers, are composed of magnesium-rich rocks and are located along the boundary lines between Africa and the Pacific Ocean.
Research conducted by a geophysics team from Utrecht University suggests these formations may be at least 500 million years old, potentially dating back to the planet's early formation. The discovery was made after seismic waves were observed to slow down unexpectedly at specific points during studies of the core-mantle boundary.
Lead researcher Dr. Arwen Deuss noted that it is not yet certain whether these structures are permanent features or temporary seismic phenomena. The discovery challenges the traditional perception of Mount Everest as the world's highest point when considering the scale of these deep-seated subterranean masses.
