Massive vegetation fire threatens Albano‑Ardea area near Castelli Hospital

A large vegetation fire broke out on Via Ardeatina at kilometre 26, straddling the border between Albano Laziale and Ardea in the province of Rome. The blaze spread rapidly under dry, hot conditions, coming close to the Ospedale dei Castelli and affecting nearby settlements such as Montagnano and Fontana di Papa.

Hundreds of firefighters, fire engines and civil‑protection volunteers from the Castelli Romani, the coastal area and Rome were deployed, supported by ambulances and local police patrols that regulated traffic and closed roads to enable safe firefighting operations. Some residents reported smoke‑related discomfort.

The fire remains active, with additional resources being sent from Rome and the front of the flames extending toward the Solfatara area of Pomezia. Authorities warned that high temperatures, wind and prolonged drought continue to heighten the risk of further vegetation fires in the region.
