Master P defends Jay-Z’s partnership with Target
Master P has publicly defended rapper Jay-Z following backlash regarding his exclusive partnership with Target. The deal involves the retail chain selling a special edition vinyl of Jay-Z’s debut album, ‘Reasonable Doubt’.
The controversy stems from a national boycott against Target initiated by Black consumers after the company rolled back its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Master P, speaking on V-103 Atlanta, expressed sympathy for Jay-Z, noting that ‘you can’t please everybody’ and that criticism is an inevitable part of business.
Master P also emphasized the importance of marketing in the music industry, suggesting that business and promotion outweigh raw talent in achieving success. Jay-Z addressed his critics during a residency at Yankee Stadium, suggesting that the outrage directed at his partnership was selective compared to the treatment of other major corporations like Amazon and Google.
