Mastercard completes $1.8 billion acquisition of stablecoin provider BVNK
Mastercard announced the completion of its $1.8 billion purchase of BVNK, a stablecoin infrastructure firm. The deal adds on‑chain payment and stablecoin capabilities to Mastercard’s global network, supporting cross‑border B2B payments, remittances, settlements and treasury flows that span fiat and digital currencies. Mastercard said the move is aimed at keeping its network relevant as stablecoins, tokenized deposits and traditional money coexist.
In the same market roundup, Wells Fargo said it will launch tokenized deposits for corporate clients later this year, initially in U.S. dollars and British pounds, to enable 24/7 programmable fund transfers within the banking system. Chime reported a 70% sequential rise in instant‑loan originations to $300 million and raised its 2026 member‑growth target to 1.8 million, driven by record direct‑deposit conversions.
