Mastercard expands prepaid card offerings in Kenya and DRC

Carrefour Kenya, KCB Bank Kenya and Mastercard introduced the Carrefour Prepaid card on 30 July 2026. The card is a reloadable prepaid instrument that can be topped up via Mastercard’s gateway and used for grocery purchases at Carrefour stores. It offers cashback and reward points, carries no card or reload fees, and can also be issued to businesses through Mastercard’s Merchant Cloud platform.

A day earlier, Airtel Money and Mastercard launched the Airtel Money Carte Global Pay in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The virtual card is generated within the My Airtel App, draws funds from the user’s Airtel Money wallet, and provides a separate, secure balance for online transactions. Backed by Mastercard’s security standards and supported by Rawbank, the card operates 24/7 and aims to broaden digital payment inclusion in the DRC.
