Mastercard launches Agent Pay for AI agents, boosting XRP Ledger use
Mastercard announced its new Agent Pay for Machines service, allowing artificial‑intelligence agents to execute instant micro‑transactions using cards, bank accounts and stablecoins. The rollout involves more than 30 partners, including the Solana Foundation, and is intended to improve transaction efficiency for automated systems.
Within the Ripple ecosystem, the development is seen as a catalyst for broader XRP Ledger adoption. RippleX co‑founder Ayo Akinyele highlighted the need for dedicated wallets and payment infrastructure for autonomous AI agents, and the team released an XRPL AI Starter Kit for developers. XRP Ledger’s high speed and low‑cost transactions position it as a potential backbone for machine‑to‑machine payments, with expectations that frequent nano‑payments could soon outpace traditional person‑to‑person transactions.
Both initiatives reflect a growing convergence of AI and blockchain technologies, aiming to create a payment layer that serves both human users and autonomous software agents.
