Mastercard launches Wallet Pay to enhance digital wallet interoperability

Mastercard has launched Mastercard Wallet Pay, a suite of solutions designed to improve interoperability for digital wallet providers. The platform aims to enhance cross-border capabilities across contactless (NFC), QR code, and online payment channels without requiring providers to build their own connectivity infrastructure.

As digital wallet usage is projected to grow from 4.3 billion users to over 6 billion by 2030, the service offers features such as secure card issuance, faster money transfers in over 150 currencies, and expanded access for underbanked consumers. The technology is cloud-based and utilizes Mastercard’s global acceptance network.

In the Philippines, the rollout includes support for GCash through a partnership involving Alipay+. This integration allows GCash, operated by G-Xchange, to leverage Mastercard’s infrastructure to provide more seamless international spending and transfer experiences for its users.
