Mastercard to sponsor XRP Ledger hackathon in New York

Mastercard has announced its sponsorship of an upcoming 36-hour XRP Ledger hackathon scheduled to take place in New York on October 24–25. The event aims to bring developers together to build and launch projects on the XRP Ledger ahead of the Swell conference hosted by Ripple.

The hackathon features four specific focus areas: protocol innovation, agentic finance, lending, and borrowing. Developers with existing projects are also encouraged to participate by integrating XRPL functionality into their current products.

This move follows an expanding relationship between Mastercard and Ripple. In November 2024, Ripple announced a collaboration involving Mastercard, WebBank, and Gemini centered around the RLUSD stablecoin. This follows Gemini’s August launch of an XRP edition of the Mastercard credit card.
