Masters of the Universe film faces $400 million shortfall and steep box‑office decline

The live‑action "Masters of the Universe" adaptation, produced by Amazon MGM Studios, had an estimated production budget of about $200 million plus marketing costs. Industry analysts say the film needs roughly $500 million worldwide to break even, but box‑office data shows it is on track to fall $400 million short, projecting a loss in excess of $200 million after theater splits.

Domestic earnings opened at $34.7 million from 3,667 North American theaters, and the second weekend is projected to drop 68 % to around $9.4 million, leaving a domestic total near $47 million. Internationally the film has earned only $25 million from 86 territories, suggesting a worldwide gross of $100‑110 million, far below the break‑even target. The steep decline follows a weak opening and discount‑ticket promotions that failed to boost attendance. The movie stars Nicholas Galitzine, Idris Elba, Camila Mendes and Jared Leto, but its financial performance places it among the costliest Hollywood flops in recent years.
