Masters of the Universe live‑action film slated for 2026 release

A new fantasy‑action movie based on Mattel’s 1981 Masters of the Universe toy line is scheduled for a 2026 theatrical debut. The 132‑minute film is a US production directed by Travis Knight, known for his work with Laika Entertainment on animated features such as Kubo and Bumblebee. The screenplay was written by Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee and David Callaham, with music by Daniel Pemberton and cinematography by Fabian Wagner.

The roster includes Nicholas Galitzine, Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Jared Leto, Alison Brie and Morena Baccarin. The story draws on a mix of inspirations – the Conan mythos, the original Star Wars saga, and Arthurian legends – to portray an extraterrestrial prince who becomes He‑Man and battles the villain Skeletor. The production aims to blend spectacular action, parody and humor while launching a new franchise for Mattel Creations in film, television and games.
