Live‑action “Masters of the Universe” film mixes sci‑fi, fantasy and teases sequels

The 2026 live‑action adaptation of the 1980s He‑Man franchise, “Masters of the Universe,” is presented as a genre mash‑up of science‑fiction, fantasy, comedy and action‑adventure. Director Travis Knight confirmed that the film places the planet Eternia in space and even hints that He‑Man’s mother, Queen Marlena, is a NASA astronaut, noting an Easter‑egg of her helmet in the background.

The movie includes three post‑credits scenes that set up future installments. The first nods to the cartoon character Orko, the second introduces She‑Ra – the Princess of Power – wielding her iconic Sword of Protection, and the final one shows Evil‑Lyn retrieving Skeletor’s disembodied head. These scenes suggest a sequel and a possible live‑action She‑Ra series.

Actor Nicholas Galitzine revealed that a cameo by Dolph Lundgren, who portrayed He‑Man in the 1987 film, was a “passing of the torch” moment. Lundgren’s appearance appears in a montage of Prince Adam’s Earth life and was encouraged by Galitzine, though Knight had already planned it. The film has received positive critical response and is positioned to launch a broader franchise expansion.
