Mastodon releases animated video for new single ‘In The Ruins’

Mastodon has released an animated music video for ‘In The Ruins,’ a single from their upcoming ninth studio album, ‘Marrow Deep,’ scheduled for release on August 28 via Loma Vista Recordings.

The new material is deeply personal, marking the band’s first full studio release following the death of founding guitarist Brent Hinds. The song’s themes of loss and rebuilding were also influenced by recent personal hardships faced by members, including Brann Dailor and Troy Sanders. Specifically, the track reflects on the impact of Hurricane Helene, which caused significant damage to Sanders’ family home.

The animated video, created by Hey Beautiful Jerk, uses surreal imagery to explore the concept of picking up the pieces after a catastrophe. Following the album release, the band is set to embark on the ‘Poisonous Weapons Tour’ this fall, featuring Deafheaven and Alcest.
