Mastodon releases new album ‘Marrow Deep’ following loss of founding member

The progressive metal band Mastodon has released their new album, ‘Marrow Deep’, following a period of significant transition and loss. The group is navigating a new chapter after the death of founding member Brent Hinds, who was killed in a motorcycle accident in August 2025.

To fill the void left by Hinds, the band has formalized Nick Johnston and João Nogueira as permanent members. The new album features contributions from high-profile collaborators, including Josh Homme and Geezer Butler.

Bassist and vocalist Troy Sanders noted that the band recently released a documentary to provide perspective on their history and the recent tragedy. Sanders described the creative process for ‘Marrow Deep’ as an effort to turn grief and personal challenges into authentic art, marking a shift in the band's dynamic while maintaining their progressive style.
