Mastodon releases new album ‘Marrow Deep’ honoring late guitarist Brent Hinds

The Atlanta-based metal band Mastodon has released a new musical chapter titled ‘Marrow Deep’. The 65-minute album reflects on significant hardships faced by the group, including the influence of the late co-founder and guitarist Brent Hinds.

Hinds passed away on August 20, 2025, following a traffic accident in Atlanta while riding a motorcycle. His musical legacy is characterized by a fusion of blues, southern rock, progressive, and psychedelic styles. The band has honored his memory through their work, including the single ‘Your Ghost Again’.

The current lineup features Nick Johnstone on guitar and keyboardist João Nogueira. The new material, such as the opening track ‘Barbarians Blood’, maintains the band’s signature technicality while incorporating nuanced elements and electronic touches.
