Mastodon releases new track ‘In The Ruins’ ahead of Marrow Deep album

Heavy metal band Mastodon has released ‘In The Ruins’, a new track ahead of their ninth studio album, Marrow Deep, scheduled for release on August 28 via Loma Vista Recordings. The song was heavily influenced by bassist and vocalist Troy Sanders’ experience with Hurricane Helene, which destroyed his family home and caused a two-year period of displacement.

The upcoming album also reflects a period of significant personal loss for the band members. Drummer and co-founder Brann Dailor noted that the record serves as a survival story, shaped by the deaths of founding guitarist Brent Hinds and Dailor’s mother, Michele Lawrence, as well as the loss of Bill Kelliher’s mother. Dailor described the album as an exploration of deep relationships and the bonds formed through decades of creative partnership.
