Mastodon releases Marrow Deep, first album following death of guitarist Brent Hinds

Atlanta-based metal band Mastodon has released Marrow Deep, their ninth studio album. The record marks a significant transition for the group, serving as their first release following the death of founding guitarist Brent Hinds in 2025.

Described as a cathartic and resilient work, the album explores themes of grief and upheaval. The band has integrated new members, including guitarist Nick Johnston and keyboardist João Nogueira, to expand their sound. The tracklist features several high-profile guest appearances, including Josh Homme, Neil Fallon, Joe Duplantier, and Black Sabbath legend Geezer Butler.

Drummer Brann Dailor noted that the recording process was shaped by profound personal losses, including the passing of his mother and the loss of property due to a hurricane. The album is characterized by a blend of heavy sludge metal, progressive rock influences, and technical experimentation.
