Masumi Hamaji rises from developmental player to DeNA set-up man

Masumi Hamaji has successfully transitioned from a developmental player to a key set-up man for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars. After being promoted to the main roster on July 10, Hamaji quickly established himself in the team's winning pattern, accumulating 20 holds in just over two months.

Despite not being a high-strikeout pitcher, Hamaji has maintained a 0.94 ERA over 29 appearances. Chief pitching coach Yota Kosugi noted that Hamaji's ability to manage batted balls, even when issuing walks, makes him reliable in high-leverage situations. Hamaji attributes his success to a shift in mindset, focusing on utilizing his existing strengths and combining analytical data with personal intuition rather than striving for unattainable perfection.
