Matúš Rusnák Returns to Slovak Club FK Železiarne Podbrezová
Twenty‑six‑year‑old Slovak midfielder Matúš Rusnák, who began his career at Žilina and joined Czech side FC Baník Ostrava in early 2024, has moved back to the Slovak Niké liga. He is on a one‑year loan with FK Železiarne Podbrezová, with an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer of 2027.
Rusnák said the stint in Ostrava was physically and mentally demanding, marked by injuries and frequent coaching changes, and that he felt he could not reach his full potential there. He chose Podbrezová because he knows the club’s system, which uses wing‑backs, and believes it will give him more playing time and the chance to enjoy football again. He also noted he preferred staying in Slovakia over a possible move to Poland.
