Matúš Šutaj Eštok calls for voter turnout in Slovak elections

Matúš Šutaj Eštok, chairman of the Hlas-SD party, has urged Slovak citizens to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming combined municipal and regional elections on October 24. Speaking at a press conference in Spišská Nová Ves, he described voting as a “privilege of democracy” and an opportunity for citizens to decide who will govern their cities, municipalities, and self-governing regions.

Regarding regional candidates, Šutaj Eštok expressed support for Igor Šimka for the chairmanship of the Košice Self-Governing Region, noting that Šimka is supported by various political entities including Smer-SD, SNS, and the Republika movement. In Spišská Nová Ves, he endorsed current vice-mayor and Member of Parliament Dávid Demečko.

While Hlas-SD aims to replicate its successful results from four years ago, the party leader expressed concern regarding the political situation in the Prešov Self-Governing Region, suggesting voters there may face difficulties in selecting a governor candidate. He also emphasized the importance of regional representation at the national level and reiterated the party's initiative to reform the electoral system to ensure every district has a directly elected representative in the National Council.
