Mata dos Sete Montes in Tomar to partially reopen in October
The Mata Nacional dos Sete Montes in Tomar is scheduled for a partial reopening to the public in October. This follows a closure lasting nearly nine months after Storm Kristin struck on January 28, which damaged approximately one thousand trees and significantly impacted heritage sites, including the 16th-century Charolinha structure.
State Secretary of Forests Rui Ladeira and Tomar Mayor Tiago Carrão announced the plan during a site visit. The reopening will be conditional, focusing initially on the central area—including the entrance garden and subsequent levels—as this zone presents a lower risk regarding tree stability and safety. The specific model and exact dates for the phased reopening will be determined following further technical meetings.
