Mata Ortiz potter selected for Homo Faber 2026 in Venice
Ceramist Diego Gerardo Valles Trevizo has been selected to participate in Homo Faber 2026, a prestigious international event for excellence in craftsmanship and contemporary design. The event will take place in Venice, Italy, as part of the Venice Biennale.
Valles, a renowned potter from Chihuahua, Mexico, represents the contemporary evolution of the Mata Ortiz pottery tradition. His selection marks a significant milestone for the Casas Grandes community, placing Mata Ortiz clay at the center of global discussions regarding the preservation of traditional knowledge through innovative artistic languages.
The selection was facilitated by cultural promoter and art historian Martha Granados Trespalacios, whose management through the Artlux platform was instrumental in identifying and presenting Valles' work to the Homo Faber team.
