Matam authorities incinerate unfit food and pharmaceutical products
Authorities in the Matam department conducted an incineration operation on August 28, 2026, to destroy food and pharmaceutical products deemed unfit for consumption. The seized goods, valued at over two million CFA francs, were destroyed in Bokissaboundou, located in the Nabadji Civol commune.
The operation was led by Matam Prefect Modou Thiam and involved several agencies, including the Matam hygiene sub-brigade, firefighters, the gendarmerie, health services, and the regional division of classified establishments. The destruction aims to prevent these items from re-entering the commercial circuit and to protect public health.
Prefect Thiam emphasized that protecting consumers is a shared responsibility between authorities, merchants, and the public. He called on stakeholders in the commercial chain to strictly adhere to hygiene and conservation standards and announced that inspections of distributors will continue to ensure unsafe products are removed from the market.
