Matam Hospital Director killed in Senegal traffic accident

A fatal traffic accident on the Ndioum-Matam axis has claimed the life of Dr. Ibou Sow, the Director of Matam Hospital. The incident occurred as three hospital directors were returning from an ‘Octobre Rose’ breast cancer awareness event in Ndioum, which was attended by the Minister of Health.

Reports indicate the vehicle was traveling at high speed when the driver attempted to avoid animals on the road, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and roll several times. In addition to Dr. Sow, the Director of the Ourossogui Hospital sustained serious injuries and was urgently evacuated, while the Director of the Agnams Hospital suffered minor injuries.

Saïd Dia, the Governor of Matam, described the deceased as a man of duty and loyalty, noting that his loss leaves a significant professional and human void. Following the tragedy, the Minister of Health has decided to suspend scheduled ‘Octobre Rose’ activities in the region.
