Matamoros recovers from heavy rainfall exceeding 13 inches
Matamoros, Tamaulipas, experienced significant flooding after recording more than 13.75 inches (approximately 349 mm) of rainfall. Following the heavy downpour, municipal authorities have been working to drain accumulated water to restore traffic flow in various sectors.
Mayor Beto Granados reported that several areas, including the intersection of 12 and Río Bravo in the San Francisco neighborhood, Calle España in Los Sauces, Avenida Mexicali, and Paseo Residencial, have already seen water levels recede. Circulation has also returned to the intersections of Avenida Las Torres and Libramiento Emilio Portes Gil, as well as Pedro Cárdenas and the same libramiento.
The municipal government noted that recent infrastructure improvements, including the repair of over 300 drainage points, have helped reduce the duration of flooding in areas that previously remained submerged for several days. Crews remain deployed in areas where water still persists, and authorities have advised the population to stay alert due to forecasts of further rainfall.
