Matanzas approaches 97 MW of installed solar power

The province of Matanzas is advancing its energy diversification strategy, with installed solar photovoltaic capacity approaching 97 megawatts (MW) peak. This makes Matanzas the second-highest producer of solar energy in the country, following Holguín.

Large-scale infrastructure includes solar parks in Guanábana, Jovellanos, Martí, Colón, and Cárdenas, supported by international cooperation. Additionally, solar technology has been deployed at a smaller scale to support vital community services. Over 326 solar kits have been installed in homes and institutions across six municipalities, providing power to polyclinics, maternity homes, elderly care facilities, and funeral homes.

In the postal sector, the Empresa de Correos Matanzas has begun a technological and energetic modernization process. The Santa Marta postal unit was the first to complete the installation of a photovoltaic system. This initiative aims to reduce dependence on the national power grid and ensure service continuity. The modernization also includes the installation of surveillance cameras and the reconfiguration of structured cabling to improve connectivity.
