Matanzas concludes 16th Fiesta de los Orígenes

The 16th Fiesta de los Orígenes has concluded in Matanzas, Cuba, following four days of activities celebrating the diverse cultural traditions of the region. The event aimed to honor the city's cultural identity through various artistic expressions.

The final day featured a performance by the Banda Provincial de Conciertos de Matanzas at Parque de la Libertad, focusing on Spanish musical heritage. This was followed by a show from the Academia de Ballet Español Donaire, which included classical Spanish dance, flamenco, and regional styles.

In recognition of Afro-Cuban traditions, identification plaques were unveiled for the Iyessa San Juan Bautista and Nilo Nille cabildos. Sol Ángel Betancourt, president of the Asociación Cultural Yoruba en Matanzas, noted the significance of marking these physical locations representing specific deities. The festival also included the closing of the Fernando Ortiz Scientific Forum, which addressed cultural identity and community management.
