Mataró Mayor considers legal action over squatters' transfer from Baños de Montemayor
The Mayor of Mataró, David Bote, is evaluating legal action against the municipality of Baños de Montemayor following the transfer of a family occupying tourist apartments to his city. Bote has questioned the use of public funds to cover the travel costs of the occupants and criticized the lack of prior communication regarding their arrival.
Bote described the decision to move the family rather than addressing the situation locally as “insolidary” and is investigating whether the Mayor of Baños de Montemayor, Nieves del Vado, failed to meet legal obligations. The potential legal proceedings would be directed at the municipality rather than the mayor personally.
In nearby Plasencia, the incident has sparked concern among tourism business owners. The Association of Accommodations and Tourism of Plasencia (Altup) is calling for new regulations to protect property owners from similar situations, noting that while they have faced non-paying guests, they have not encountered a case of this severity.
