Matías Luengas Vergel earns perfect Icfes score and full scholarship

Matías Luengas Vergel, a 16-year-old student from Cúcuta, achieved a perfect score of 500 out of 500 on the 2026 Saber 11 national exams administered by Icfes. A student at Colegio Santo Ángel de la Guarda, Luengas Vergel has a history of academic excellence, including first-place finishes in the 2025 Science Olympiads at the University of Santander and the 2026 Mathematics Olympiads at the Industrial University of Santander.

Following his achievement, Abelardo de la Espriella announced that the student has been awarded a full scholarship to cover five years of university studies. The scholarship, supported by Colombian businessman Christian Daes, COO of Tecnoglass, allows Luengas Vergel to choose any university in the country. The student intends to pursue a degree in Mathematical Engineering with interests in technology, artificial intelligence, and research.
