Matías Rodríguez launches new club and prepares for football retirement

Former Universidad de Chile defender Matías Rodríguez is preparing for his professional football retirement while simultaneously launching a new sporting project. To address the economic and legal crises facing Deportes Melipilla, Rodríguez has led the creation of the Club Social y Deportivo Melipilla. This new institution aims to provide a clean alternative without existing liabilities and intends to apply for the ANFA Tercera B division to begin competition in December.

Rodríguez’s farewell match is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, at the Estadio Bicentenario de La Florida. The event aims to reunite members of the 2011 Copa Sudamericana championship squad. While many former teammates are expected to attend, Rodríguez noted that Eugenio Mena will not participate due to his current affiliation with Universidad Católica.
