Matías Zucherino overcomes autism challenges through passion for Lionel Messi
Eight-year-old Matías Zucherino, who has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), attended the Princess of Asturias Sports Awards in Oviedo to see Lionel Messi. Despite facing significant challenges in crowded environments due to sensory overload, Matías used his passion for football and the Argentine national team to build social confidence.
His mother, Rocío Villaverde, noted that the sport served as a gateway for him to tolerate larger crowds and interact with others. This progress extended to physical activity, as Matías recently requested to join a football team, a milestone his family considers a major achievement in his development.
