Matchbox Twenty singer accidentally strikes bandmate with microphone stand
During a Matchbox Twenty performance at the Illinois State Fair on August 16, lead singer Rob Thomas accidentally struck bandmate Paul Doucette in the head with a microphone stand. The incident occurred while Thomas was swinging the stand during the song ‘Bent’.
The impact destroyed Doucette’s in-ear monitor. Thomas immediately halted the show to apologize to the audience, expressing distress over the accident. Doucette briefly left the stage to receive medical attention but returned shortly after, appearing to be in good spirits and joking about the incident.
Following the concert, Doucette shared footage showing staff using tweezers to remove debris from his ear. He jokingly shouted at Thomas in the video as the fragments were cleared.
