Mate Rimac pursues stolen Bugatti Chiron to Austria in Porsche 911
Mate Rimac, CEO of Bugatti Rimac, personally pursued a thief in a Porsche 911 after his Bugatti Chiron, valued at approximately 2 to 2.4 million euros, was stolen from company facilities near Zagreb, Croatia.
The theft occurred because the vehicle was left unlocked with the keys inside, a practice Rimac noted he had used for years to allow employees to move vehicles easily. After realizing the car was missing, Rimac utilized the hypercar’s real-time telemetry to track its location and shared this data with authorities.
The thief, a Croatian man who reportedly entered the premises seeking employment, drove the vehicle through Slovenia and into Austria. The pursuit ended when Austrian police intercepted the suspect after he attempted to refuel the car without paying. While Rimac stated he does not intend to pursue legal action against the individual, the case will proceed through criminal channels due to the high value of the vehicle.
