Matej Tonin loses European Parliament immunity in Knovs case
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has officially notified Slovenian MEP Matej Tonin that his parliamentary immunity has been revoked in relation to the Knovs case.
The decision follows a vote in which the European Parliament rejected a report from the Committee on Legal Affairs, which had previously recommended that Tonin retain his immunity. The final vote count was 304 in favor of revocation and 306 against, though the specific outcome resulted in the loss of immunity.
Tonin’s office noted that while two members expressed intentions to amend their votes after the results were announced, Metsola confirmed in writing that such corrections do not change the official outcome. Under parliamentary rules, a vote is considered final once the presiding officer announces the result. The decision will be communicated to the relevant national authorities via the permanent representation of the member state to the EU.
