Matera announces theme and leadership for 2027 Festa della Bruna
The city of Matera has officially begun preparations for the 638th edition of the Festa della Bruna, scheduled for July 2, 2027. During a mass at the Basilica Cattedrale, Monsignor Benoni Ambarus announced the theme for the event's triumphal chariot, based on a biblical passage from the Acts of the Apostles (10:34): “I now realize that God does not show favoritism.” This theme, referencing the encounter between Peter and Cornelius, focuses on universal welcome and breaking down social barriers.
In conjunction with the theme announcement, the Associazione Maria Santissima della Bruna confirmed several organizational updates. Bruno Caiella has been reconfirmed as President of the Association, and Don Pasquale Giordano has been appointed as the new Archiepiscopal Delegate.
The announcement marks the start of the preparatory cycle, including spiritual meetings and the selection process for paper-mâché masters who will construct the chariot. The deadline for interested artisans to submit their expressions of interest is October 15.
