Matera bids to host the 2028 Adunata Nazionale degli Alpini

Matera is advancing its candidacy to host the 2028 Adunata Nazionale degli Alpini, one of Italy’s most significant national events. Mayor Antonio Nicoletti recently met with the national commission of the Associazione Nazionale Alpini (ANA) to discuss organizational prospects for the gathering, which is scheduled to take place from May 12 to 14, 2028.

The project involves a broad territorial collaboration including the Province of Matera, the Basilicata Region, and delegations from Bari and Melfi. The initiative aims to leverage local infrastructure, mobility, and hospitality services to manage the large-scale participation expected from thousands of Alpini and visitors, particularly from Northern Italy. Proponents suggest that bringing the event to a city in Southern Italy offers a unique opportunity to showcase Matera’s cultural heritage to a national audience.
