Matera Hospital introduces advanced Angio-OCT technology
The Matera Local Health Authority (ASM) has introduced the Angio-OCT TowardPi BMizar Ultra at the Madonna delle Grazie Hospital. This equipment, valued at 240,000 euros and funded by PNRR funds, makes Matera the first center in Italy to utilize this specific system for ophthalmology.
The technology uses Swept-Source Full-Range to achieve acquisition speeds of 400,000 A-scans per second, providing Ultra Wide Field images up to 200 degrees. It integrates optical coherence tomography (OCT) with OCT angiography to study retinal microvascularization.
According to Ophthalmology Director Massimo Lorusso, the system includes eye tracking and real-time automatic realignment to improve exam precision. The device is intended to assist in diagnosing and monitoring maculopathies, retinal pathologies, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and retinal microcirculation alterations. The rapid acquisition speed is expected to benefit elderly patients or those with difficulty maintaining fixation.
