Matera promotes year-round tourism and heritage travel initiatives

The city of Matera is implementing new strategies to promote year-round tourism and specialized heritage travel. During the TTG Travel Experience in Rimini, local officials presented a diverse cultural and gastronomic calendar designed to extend visitor stays beyond single-night visits and reduce seasonal fluctuations.

Key initiatives include the upcoming Roots-IN international exchange, scheduled for November 10-11. This event focuses on 'roots tourism,' targeting the approximately 80 million descendants of Italian emigrants worldwide. The program will host 55 international buyers from countries including the United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, and Australia to facilitate B2B connections with Italian travel agencies, tour operators, and genealogical services.

These efforts align with Matera’s positioning as the Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue 2026, aiming to strengthen the city’s international profile through continuous programming in cinema, music, and exhibitions.
