Maternal mental health linked to child emotional development
Research indicates that parental mental health and family atmosphere significantly influence a child's emotional development and future personality. A study conducted in December 2021 across 36 preschools in Anhui Province, China, surveyed 6,111 children aged 3 to 6. The findings revealed that higher levels of anxiety, depression, and stress in mothers correlate with increased emotional and behavioral issues in their children.
While maternal mental health is a critical factor, active involvement from fathers can help mitigate these negative effects in boys. Experts suggest that rather than maintaining constant gentleness, parents should focus on modeling healthy emotional regulation. By demonstrating how to calm down and resolve conflicts after moments of anger, parents can teach children that frustration does not necessitate shouting or social withdrawal.
